The CanSkate Program is for skaters from the age of 3 years and up, will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, with no formal testing. Canskate is a 45 minute session that includes the following. The first 15 minutes is a warm up for all skaters on the ice. The warm up is split into two groups, based on Canskate level. Each warm up group is lead by a Certified Coach, as well, there are Program assistants available for more one on one help if needed. If a skater has arranged private lessons with one of our coaches, it is at this time that they would have their private lesson.
The remaining 1/2 hour skaters are put into small groups (6:1). They will have 15 minutes with a Certified Coach, this coach is the one who will be evaluating your skater on an ongoing basis. The other 15 minutes consists of Stations and additional practice. The stations are lead by two Certified Coaches and many Program Assistants. During the stations skaters practice the elements that are on their current level, as well coaches will challenge them with elements from higher levels. The goal of the stations is to have continuous movement, to try and achieve this the coaches use circuits. The circuits are paths which have stops, where skaters will practice different elements.
For the younger skaters we incorporate toys, bubbles etc. for more fun.
At the end of each of the 4 sessions, skaters will be given a progress report, which will let the parents know how the skater progressed through that session.
The canskate program has 7 levels, when a skater completes all the elements on a certain level, that skater will receive a badge. To help along the way the ASC uses stickers and ribbons as incentives.
